7MATE Northline Speedway hosted the National Junior Sedan Title on Friday and Saturday night. With 60 entrants from across Australia, including 15 from the Territory, racing was 5 wide at times. After 24 heat races, a C Main and a B Main we had 20 of the fastest Junior Drivers ready to battle to be Australian No.1.
The Final race for the title was 25 laps and had 3 stoppages which ensured the front of the field stayed within striking distance of the lead. The after the final yellow the top 5 Nathan Thorne, Casey OConnell, Ardie Jonic, Jack Ramsdale and Mitch Glynn were locked into a thrilling race. Thorne and Jonic broke away from the rest of the field in the final laps of the race, swapping the lead several times. However, on the 22nd lap Jonic got in the lead and held on to become the Australian No. 1.
The title weekend also saw the final race for 2 of Darwin’s local Juniors, Aleisha Grimshaw and Lance Carew. Carew has now competed at 7 National Junior Sedan Titles and attended the Rising Star Program during his career. 7MATE Northline Speedway wish them all the best and hope to see them in a new category in the future.
